It's picture time again.

In case you didn't know, you can click on the image to see a bigger version. For some of these pictures, they won't make sense till you see the larger version.

It always amuses me how indifferent Indians are toward Hitler. He's not a scary or a hated figure here. The consensus opinion (including educated folk and commoners) is that he was a very strict figure and fought a war. If anything Hitler brings up Chaplin's portrayal of Hitler to mind and that just becomes a joke. So with that in mind, I didn't quite know what to make of these!

And in case it wasn't clear who you were looking at, on the flip side we have the name.

When I saw this, I was driving my scooter, and I was so startled that I almost hit someone in my hurry to come back and look at it again. This is people standing in a line to get into a bus!!! This is right out of Shankar's vision of the future under Arjun's leadership.

Of course, the tricky part was taking this picture without looking like a jackass. So I pretended to be talking on my phone through an earpiece while taking these pictures.

This is the sign on a medical store that apparently won't sell medicines to Elton John or Ellen Degeneres.

This is from the handicrafts village. This diorama represents a bunch of tribals making statues. Notice the person at the right edge of the frame, that's not a real person!

These were actors from the "street theater" that were walking around and doing small scenes. All the actors are male, and it's weird how the scenes they were enacting resembled nothing I'd ever read about in any of the mythologies! See how many "gods" and mythological figures you can spot.

Two videos to end.

A drum dance.

A clip of the street theatre

Pictures of the hike

The triangle. Sasha, the temple at the base of the hill and two guys who I was pretty sure would try to steal Sasha but ended up being just some more nice Punekars.

The beautiful hills

Me!

The dancing pair.

More dancing.

More dancing.

These were this oddly patterned rocks all over the hills. Crystalline formations. I wish I had a geologist or a chemist with me.

Another odd rock formation.

More cool rock stuff

Funny story behind this picture. I was trying to climb down the hill and was caught in an awkward position where I couldn't find any way down. I couldn't move my legs and was scouting a path when I saw this beautiful sight I just had to shoot. But I was afraid of moving and causing a minor landslide. So without moving out of my crab pose, I unslung my camera, shot the picture, all with one hand.

A small pictorial update

This is a part of a new route I'm taking to get back home. The sunset is just fantastic. I took this with my cell while driving on Sasha and I bet I got a better shot than the wannabe photographers standing there.
I would have loved to have lived here but my agent wasn't dealing with this place. Still, the only thing cooler than living here would have been to find someone else living in that apartment complex who got the reference.
The burst tire on the bus that delayed by journey back to Pune from Hyderabad by 6 hours!
Just a few straws I think I'll be using exclusively from now on.

Ridin' dirty

A little glimpse at my road experiences so far.

This is what I looked like the first few days I went to work. Protection for my hair, eyes and nose/mouth.
And this is me with my helmet. Better or worse? Frankly the helmet gets the edge because in addition to protecting my skull, it actually doesn't mess up my hair too much.
This is my scooter.

Awaiting real license plates. (If I name my scooter Sasha and no one gets the reference, is it still funny?
This is an extremely common sight on the roads here. Women cover their faces almost completely, and in some cases even wear shades to protect their eyes while on the road. It's not limited to drivers or even passengers of two wheelers. Even pedestrians and bus passengers do this. In case I haven't mentioned it before, the non-nose/mouth covering is to protect their hair. And that's a sign that women are beginning to put effort into how they look. A good sign.

Picture = 1k words

"Crack-resistant cement" with the picture of a girl. I just don't know what to do with that.

No, it's not remarkable to see three people on one two-wheeler in India. What you probably can't see in the picture is that there's a child sleeping on the petrol tank right between the driver and the handlebar.
Signs of a booming economy - dog matrimony. I sincerely hope they're talking of marrying dogs to other dogs and not to humans.
A few buildings around the place I stay right now.
A temple near by.
This picture is dedicated to Niraj.
And this picture is dedicated to my parents (for the Chutney's reference) who I sincerely hope aren't reading this blog.
This is the swanky apartment I'm staying in right now. I'll be moving to a significantly worse place.
